The adventure of a lifetime which started with a newspaper ad, brought three local men on a 14,000 mile odyssey to the other side of the world…all done in 1961 Mini. September 1962 and the three intrepid explorers meet face to face for the first time on the quay-side in Belfast as they prepare to depart on the road trip that would bring them from the hills of Donegal to downtown Singapore. They captured on film Iraq in the early days of Saddam Hussein, and also travelled through a simpler, more peaceful Afghanistan and Pakistan. With no back up other than a spare wheel, a few extra parts and a change of clothes. A new BBC documentary brings their story back to life and lets viewers share their epic journey to exotic locations on a road trip few would even attempt today.
